Research shows that a young child’s language, social and literacy development depends on positive, supportive adult-child interactions. In fact, ordinary, everyday routines like dressing, mealtime, and playtime give adults the best opportunities to promote a child’s early learning and language development. The You Make the Difference program and resources provide childcare providers with the tools they need to make a difference during a child’s early years — a difference that enriches the adult-child relationship and sets the child up for successful interactions with family and friends, in school and in life.
The You Make the Difference! Program is being offered to home childcare providers who care for young children, birth to five years of age. It is a series of nine classes that will build upon your knowledge of speech development and provide you with techniques that have been proven to increase language and communication development, social engagement, and pre-literacy skills. In addition to the group sessions, videotaping will be used to capture fun, positive adult-child interactions. Caregivers will also have an opportunity to meet other home care providers, discuss the unique challenges of their work, and share ideas, experiences, and resources.
