By bringing organizations, businesses, government officials and many individuals together, the GSC seeks to enhance the quality of life for young children in Washtenaw County. One way that this is accomplished is through the production of a yearly report outlining the Status of Young Children in Washtenaw County.

2010 Status of Young Children Report

Using this report, along with information from community conversations and input from local groups, organizations and businesses that serve young children and their families, Washtenaw Success by 6 and the Great Start Collaborative partnered with the Washtenaw Birth to Six Interagency Coordinating Council to develop an Early Childhood Action Agenda which laid out what we need going forward to ensure that "every child enters kindergarten healthy and eager to learn." In a document entitled, "Investing in Our Children and Our Community, we laid out the basics of our Strategic Plan and this action agenda.

The GSC also plays an active role in advocating for the needs of young children with elected officials. Again partnering with the Birth to Six Interagency Coordinating Council, the Washtenaw GSC produced information that helps to inform and educate elected officials about the needs of all young children and how they can support them.
