What is the Imagination Library?

imagination-logo

The Dolly Parton Imagination Library brings books to children's homes. Each month, from birth until they turn five years old, children enrolled in the program will receive a new, hard-cover, age-appropriate book mailed to their home. This means that by the time they enter kindergarten; children will have their own library of books and be more prepared to enter school and become readers.

The Washtenaw Imagination Library is made possible through a collaboration between Washtenaw Success by 6, Washtenaw County Head Start and the Literacy Coalition of Washtenaw County with the generous financial support of the Ann Arbor Link, Inc. This collaborative effort reflects the goals of both the county-wide strategic plan of Washtenaw Success by 6 and the Literacy Coalition's Blueprint to End Illiteracy. Who is Eligible?

Currently in Washtenaw County, children who live in the 48197 and 48198 zip codes and are less than five years old are eligible for the Imagination Library. We have plans to extend this program to other areas of the county during the coming years.

How Does the Program Work?

Once your child is enrolled, he or she will receive one book per month mailed directly to your home. The first book will arrive approximately 8-10 weeks after enrollment. These books have been specifically chosen to capture the interest of children throughout their early years and to provide opportunities for parents and children to spend time reading and learning together.

If a child moves out of the 48197 or 48198 zip code areas, he or she automatically exits the program. For moves within these zip codes, please notify Washtenaw Success by 6, so that your child can continue to receive his/her books.
